Bobbi and I are very excited to announce that The Boxwood Cottage is opening again in October 2013! We are so happy to be settled in our little store on Market.

It's true, we are flying North for the Summer! Therefore we are closing The Boxwood Cottage on April 30.  And we are having a sale!  Currently we have 30% off of jewelry by Heidi Brueggeman and 20% off of Tabletop items and Lamps.  Stock is whiddling down, so don't wait until the last minute! 

Thank you to everyone in Habersham and the surrounding areas who have welcomed us with open arms.  We have had an exceptionally great time being a part of this incredible Marketplace, and we hope to come back to join the community again!

Preparing for Easter at The Boxwood Cottage

We have some lovely new bits in the store; as always on Fridays we will be open from Noon until at least 6 pm while folks enjoy live music in the Marketplace. We don't have elaborate Easter baskets like the one in the photo (isn't it lovely?),but we do have some great baskets that are perfect for one to purchase in the most earnest intention of assisting the bunny in his travels. Wink wink.

The Boxwood Cottage Happy St Patricks Day - Topiary Challenge Continues

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I know we have another 16 days in the Real World - but TONIGHT, in Habersham, it's St. Patrick's Day!  From 5 - 8:30 PM Habersham Marketplace will be hosting The Beaufort Irish Festival's annual "Evening in Ireland"!  Live music!  Irish Beer!  Irish Foods!  Firepits!  Come on down.  It will be lovely (imagine my saying that with a faux Irish lilt...).







As it stands, the SC Topiary Challenge continues.  I am seriously considering some kind of prize for the person who is able to direct me to live, growing, indoor topiaries.  I know they are around here somewhere.  If this challenge fails you can bet I will be hoarding them all summer and busing a herd of topiaries across the Mason Dixon to Habersham!  Topiaries deserve SC and SC deserves proper topiaries! 

Chinoiserie at The Boxwood Cottage

We love a touch (or a heap!) of Chinoiserie at The Boxwood Cottage.  Like any exotic touch it adds a bit of interest to a space or a vignette. 
As usual we will be in the Cottage until 7 PM on Friday (tomorrow) for Habersham Marketplace's Music on Market Friday evenings!  Davis Marshall will be filling the air with music while the fire pits add just the warmth we need on these chilly Lowcountry nights. Shucked-while-you-watch local oysters from Lady's Island Oyster Co. will be available before you head into one of our delicious restaurants here at the Marketplace.  Starting tomorrow evening from 5:30 - 8:30 PM right here on Market in gorgeous Habersham, Beaufort, South Carolina.

The SC Topiary Challenge

I LOVE a topiary.

Dear reader of The Boxwood Cottage, do you know how difficult it is to find an indoor topiary in South Carolina? This is now one of my life's challenges.  If you can offer some insight on this, I will reward you.  I am not sure how, but I will find a way. 

I even went so far as to "Ask a Master Gardener" and she was puzzled, too.  I called the only place she suggested, Hyams Nursery in Charleston.  They were more than confused about why I would want to have a topiary inside. Maybe in the South this is unnecessary.  Maybe it only happens in the North where we must nurture indoor greenery (in shapes) to help us limp through the desperate dark days of winter (dark at 4:30, not kidding, and it's not that close to the Arctic Circle). 

I know exactly where to go in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, even Connecticut.  South Carolina? No clue. Savannah seems like the city that really should have an excess of topiaries. Zilch (in my searches).

Consider this post the throwing of the Topiary Gauntlet. Have at it dear readers.  Please someone help!  We must have some living, breathing, growing, green, well-trimmed topiaries at The Boxwood Cottage soon!

Bunny Williams pop-up shop in The Hamptons? I think? Regardless there is blue & white (hello!), and topiaries in URNS.  See this is New England where topiaries know where to be.  Wait, do these look artificial?  If this is, in fact, Bunny's place, I don't think she would do faux topiaries?  Will I be driven to the same insanity?

New in Store - week of Feb 4!

Gorgeous new pieces are flooding in the door nearly every day!  Please note our new hours - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday we will be in the store starting at Noon.  Closing at 3 o'clock PM except on Fridays, we close at 6 o'clock due to some wonderful Marketplace activity like Music on Market or First Friday. 

Fantastic faux bamboo Chinese Chippendale side chairs.  I feel like I have already talked about these.  They are aluminum, from the 50s-60s.  Original brown gloss paint finish (very nice condition) with blue-green brocade seats (these would not be hard to change if desired).  Set of SIX side chairs, $990.

Who doesn't LOVE a bar cart?!?!  I do.  As a matter of fact they fall into another one of my obsession catagories.  This one is vintage, probably 70s-80s.  Great condition, great lines.  $120.  A steal if you look at the price of new carts, or even vintage ones online! 

Friday Fun at Habersham

TGIF!  Another fun Friday is in store (and on the street as it happens) at the Habersham Marketplace.  The Boxwood Cottage will be open until 7 o'clock PM this evening.  Live Charleston Bluegrass band Boss Hawg will be showering the outdoor Marketplace and adjacent fire pits with excellent tunes to warm you from the inside out.  Speaking of warming, Habersham is happy to host Sea Eagle this evening serving incredible fresh Lowcountry Boil, Gumbo, or Steamed Shrimp for only $5/dinner.  There will also be vendors and shopping and deliciousness all around.  Please join us! 
Also I would like to give a congrats to Berto's Tex Mex (our neighbor) who is proud to open their expanded dining room!  More seating means more Queso for everyone (see below...).

New In Store, Week of January 25th

My weekly update of new pieces in The Boxwood Cottage!  I have a brass thing going on right now. Last week it was Bamboo (it continues to be bamboo...but now we have added brass).

 Animals abound on this gorgeous tray table (I will update next time with some detail!).  This piece is perfect for those long journeys through the Sahara, picnics in Palm Springs, or an afternoon at Polo.  Just add pouf for instant al fresco chic.

Inspiration

Speaking of MLK Day, did you know that Dr. King's "I have a dream" speech was written at the Penn Center on Lady's Island while he was visiting Beaufort? I'm beginning to understand the mystique of this area, and that truly inspired speech proves it that much more.

Bamboo Obsession

It's true that I have an absolute obsession with bamboo.  I love the organic and graphic look it adds to any space.  It also has this resort connotation that reminds me of every tropical place I have ever visited or lived.  Really it justifies my other obsession with caftans.  That's another story for a warmer day.
